Standered Chartered Saga.Is New York Trying to Reclaim its Long lost Glory

I was listening to a BBC podcast earlier and I heard this claim from a respected British politician who believed that New York cases against British banks are political. Labour Mp John Mann,who is a member of parliament financial committee made these claims today. He said that the cases brought upon these banks are have a deliberate intentions of scaring people from using London financial system hoping that will bring back New York as the financial capital of the world.
Mr Mann named the US presidential committee including a few names like Mary Shapiro who is one of the four main people in the committee as responsible for this secret agenda. If these finger pointing continues they may lead to a major fallout between US and UK in terms of financial relations. Do you think there is truth to these claims?
