Luka Modric will be fined for his refusal to train and his absence from Tottenham's pre-season tour.
The Croatian, said to want to join Real Madrid, did not report for training on Friday and was not on the plane that left for Los Angeles on Saturday.“I think Modric is wrong. This will go against him. He has worsened the situation with what he's doing and now the chairman [Daniel Levy] is very angry”Andre Villas-Boas Tottenham manager
Manager Andre Villas-Boas expressed his anger at the situation and Modric is likely to be fined two weeks' wages.
The 26-year-old, who has four years left on his contract, wanted to join Chelsea last summer. Chairman Daniel Levy refused to allow Modric leave the club on that occasion but is now understood to be willing to allow the player to leave the club for the right price.
Spurs are looking for a fee close to £40m, but Real's best offer at this stage is about £27m plus add-ons.
Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation and have the spending power to match Tottenham's asking price.
Modric's representatives are scheduled to hold talks with Real on Monday but the midfielder may hand in another formal transfer request if the situation is not resolved quickly.
Tottenham have asked Modric to report to the club's training ground in Essex while the squad are in the United States, where they will play matches against New York Red Bulls, Liverpool and Los Angeles Galaxy.
Villas-Boas criticised Modric on Sunday. Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, he said: "I think Modric is wrong.
"This will go against him. He has worsened the situation with what he's doing and now the chairman is very angry.
"This is also not a good time for Daniel Levy, who is in the USA at the moment, because his wife is ill."
Villas-Boas said Modric would be a major loss if he leaves Spurs.
"He's good, very good. I tried to sign him last summer for Chelsea," said the Portuguese. "He will be a big loss.
"He's a player who can make the difference, who gives a lot of clarity to the play when the team needs it and who can play in several positions."
