The funny thing happened this afternoon while I m watching the soccer game between US and England,I grabbed my phone to start blog about Clint Dempsey the US player and there he scored.I was watching the first half of this game winding down and in my mind there was nothing more than why is the media in the US all about Donovan? I have seen Donovan play so many time s and for me he is not more than just a regular hard working player. But it is very different for Dempsey,hard working? yes,skillful?yes, luckier hell yeah.
For any soccer know how knows the beautiful game is more than skills and ranks, there is luck. I m not in any way trying to play down Dempsey skills on the game but I also have to point out he has luck on his side.He comes to this big game with no one speak of him but I know one thing for sure he always shine.I would have him in my time at any given day. Yes Robert Green made a mistake, but from the other angle Dempsey was lucky once again.
It is very important for any manager at this level to understand what they have in store even when the media doesn't. For countries like South Africa is the speed even though they lack the strength, Nigeria is the strength and skill even though they lack tack-ticks and for the US will be Dempsey and the long balls which they seem to handle better than any one else.
World cup is a stage where the unknown become the idols and some of known become phenomenon. It is the stage where trying can can make you the greatest. US should utilize this opportunity to gain the respect they truly deserve in the soccer world of today.
